The yacht that took Scarborough Sailor Guy Waites around the world has gone up for sale.
Sagarmatha has been listed for sale by Plymouth Yacht Sales for £99,950
The boat is a 1993 Tradewind 35 which Guy refurbished an upgraded ahead of his solo-circumnavigation of the globe in the Golden Globe Yacht Race.
The website listing for Sagarmatha says:
"This 1993 Tradewind 35 is perfect for off-shore racing, offering 8 new sails from Sanders Sails, a Zspars mast and standing rigging, as well as a Hydrovane Self Steering and three vanes. Not only this, it has been built with extra glass layers to all bulkheads, longitudinal beams and hull/deck join, making it a strong and reliable boat. Additionally, it is fully GGR Notice of Race specification, including first aid kit, survival suit, grab bags and sat comms."
Guy set sail from France last September in Sagarmatha and completed his solo round the world voyage last month.
Sagarmatha was built in Lymington by Blondecell Marine as the designer John Rock's personal yacht. In her second ownership she sailed to New Zealand and Australia and was bought by GGR Founder and President Don McIntyre.
Guy was the 7th and owner of the legendary boat, buying the vessel from her previous owner in Panama. Prior to his golden Globe Race attempt Guy had spent several years getting Sagarmatha up to race standard.
Sagarmatha was well prepared in Whitby, the forward bulk has been made watertight with and empty storage area forward for sails, and an extra 15 watertight compartments courtesy of the Corribee experience, making the boat virtually unsinkable.
The boat was rewired, it's plumbing was entirely replaced, and all systems were simplified to the maximum to limit potential problems and jamming.
Having completed his circumnavigation of the globe, Guy says it's now time for Sagarmatha to move on to new adventures and possibly another Golden Globe Race.
Guy says he's been delighted with the way Sagarmatha performed during their 288 days at sea.
