Scarborough Lions Club call off the New Year's Day Dip in Scarborough in light of COVID situation.
It's the first time in the events 20 year history that it has had to be called off.
In a statement on social media the club say...
"We have been holding back from doing this in the vain hope that the current covid-19 situation might ease by the time of the our new day years day dip.
Unfortunately it is unlikely that this will be the case and with that in mind and with great sadness we have taken the decision that we will not be organising and holding our annual new years day dip on 1st January 2021.
This is the first time we have had to cancel our dip in the twenty year history of the new years day dip being held on the Scarborough foreshore.
We would like to thank the Rowing Club, the Mayor, the Town Crier, Ryedale Mountain Rescue, the dippers and of course you, the general public who always helped make the day such a great success, regardless of the weather.
To paraphrase a well known saying,"we will be back in 2022!!!
