Alison Hume says there's a lack of provision for children with disabilities in Scarborough.
The Labour MP was surprised by the lack of facilities locally.
She said:
" So just talking to a group of parents in Scarborough who've identified that there is not an accessible playground in the town, and we are talking about an accessible, swing accessible roundabout that children with disabilities can use. And I was quite shocked when I realised that wasn't the case.
"So very early doors with that one. But it's so important. We all know any of us who've had children with disabilities that we want to take our children to a park and use playground equipment, and it's really difficult to find those playgrounds."
Ms Hume said she wants to improve the situation:
" There is not an accessible playground in the town and we are talking about a cafe that's accessible, toilets that are accessible. The fact that Scarborough doesn't have it is a big miss and I'm going to be working with those parents to, to try and make that a reality. Obviously, the local authority will have to be involved.
"It's some stage and we'll be looking at best practice, which other towns are doing it well. And also, is there an opportunity to get a changing place toilet in? Because that's another thing that people write to me about is the lack of toilets in Scarborough and Whitby, and particularly changing places, toilets."
