Scarborough Mountain Rescue Team In Two Ice Fall Rescues

The first call out was to Lastingham on Thursday followed by a 2nd call out to Driffield on Friday.

Both call outs were to help people who had fallen on ice. Conditions were trechorous in both incidents and although both fallers were relatively close to civilisation, team members and special equipment were required to get them to hospital.
 
Here is the Scarborough & Ryedale Mountain Rescue Incident Report for both call outs:
 

Rescue – Driffield – 19th January 15:28 – 03/2023
Called by Yorkshire Ambulance Service (YAS) to reports of a 73 year old female who had fallen on ice on a path in woodland close to Driffield Beck sustaining an ankle and possible hip injury. YAS has a crew on scene quickly who requested our help with the provision of a ‘casbag’ (think thick fleecy sleeping bag) and heat packs along with team members and a stretcher to carry her back to the waiting ambulance at the roadside. We had twelve team members deployed for two and a half hours.

Rescue – Lastingham – 18th January 15:02 – 02/2023
Alerted to reports of a 68 year old female who had fallen on ice on a track close to Lastingham sustaining an ankle injury. The team responded to scene stabilising the lady’s injury before evacuating her to the roadside in Lastingham in one of our 4×4 vehicles where we made her as comfortable as possible and warm until a crew from Yorkshire Ambulance Service could attend and drive her to definitive medical care. We had nine team members deployed for four and three quarter hours.
