The Filey Tourism Association is preparing for a bustling summer season with a packed events calendar, a major zoo rebranding, and an ongoing public consultation on the town's investment plan.
The Filey Tourism Association is anticipating a busy summer season as the resort gears up for a host of events, business developments, and a new town investment plan.
A key highlight for the town this year is the rebranding of the Filey Bird and Animal Park, which has officially become Filey Zoo. The attraction has expanded its offerings, prompting the name change.
Chair of the Filey Tourism Association, Andrew Jenkins, said:
"They've got such a lovely wide range of animals there now. um so they've obviously felt that now is the time to make that change and, you know, they've done a really good job on the the branding and the logoing and and it's a great business and and we're love love having them around.
And of course we're also supporting businesses with discussions about new tourism levy and things like that as well. So there's an awful lot going on for Filey tourism right now."
Alongside business developments, the town is preparing for a packed schedule of events designed to attract visitors throughout the year.
Andrew Jenkins added:
"There's always the the food festivals of course throughout the year. First one is on Easter weekend, so Filey will be incredibly busy that weekend. but the the rest of them are spread through the year and we'd really encourage people to to support that.
There's obviously kite festivals and things like that coming as well. And lots of smaller events. there's the folk festival, the Americana festival, and of course 1779 as well. So an awful lot going on in Filey throughout the year."
In addition to the tourism preparations, residents, business owners, and visitors are being urged to have their say on the future of the resort through the Filey Town Investment Plan consultation.
The plan is being developed by North Yorkshire Council as part of a wider regeneration programme across thirty-two towns in the county. The initiative aims to guide future funding bids by ensuring they are targeted towards local priorities.
The work is supported by David Skaith, Mayor of York and North Yorkshire, and receives funding from the York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority.
Organisers of the consultation say that to ensure the investment plan reflects local priorities, public engagement drop-in sessions have been scheduled.
The sessions will take place on Tuesday the 14th of April from 2pm to 4pm, and again from 5pm to 7pm, at Filey Library.
Paper versions of the consultation are also available from Filey Library, with the closing date for submissions set for Tuesday the 5th of May 2026.
