The Scarborough Ladies Lifeboat Guild held a Dinner Dance to celebrate and raise funds in honour of the RNLI's 200th anniversary.
RNLI Ladies Lifeboat Guild Chair, Mrs Gladys Fox opened the evening with a warm welcome to all and a short itinerary of the evening's events, and then handed over to Scarborough RNLI Chair, Colin Woodhead who spoke of the importance of the RNLI, its volunteers and the work put into such events such as this one.
The event included a live local band called ‘Easy Steet’ where guests danced the evening away.
As well as the dinner and dance the guild also held a raffle and auction
Scarborough Ladies Lifeboat Guild Secretary and Treasurer, Lynne Garforth said:
‘The whole evening was a great success and along with a raffle, painting auctioned by RNLI Scarborough Volunteer Launch Authority Mark French, a bracelet donated by Shiptons, a local jewellers and the generosity of our guests the evening raised £2000.00.
‘We would like to thank firstly, 'The North Cliff Golf Club' and its staff for the delicious meal, to Mark for his enthusiasm as auctioneer, all our guests who gave so generously and made the evening a really pleasurable one and last but by no means least to the Ladies Lifeboat Guild Committee especially Mrs Judith Hargreaves Event Secretary and Mrs Gladys Fox Chairman for their extra efforts put into this very enjoyable event.'
Colin Woodhead, RNLI Chairman said:
'We are incredibly grateful to the Scarborough Ladies Lifeboat Guild for organising this and the generosity of our guests. The event raised £2000.00 which will help Scarborough RNLI continue saving lives at sea.’
The donations received by the station’s generous supporters will enable Scarborough RNLI to continue their vital work to save lives at sea. Examples of how this money could be used include purchasing any of the following:
- Drysuit for an ILB (inshore lifeboat) crew member (£805),
- Thermal suit for an ILB crew member (£150),
- Helly Hansen layered clothing and boots for an ALB (all-weather lifeboat) crew member (£1600),
- Lifejacket (£590),
- Helmet (£350),
- Seagoing gloves (£25).
