Scarborough Knifeman Jailed

A man who carried out a shop robbery in Scarborough while armed with a knife has been jailed for six years.

Nathan Christopher Stone (pictured), aged 28, of Barrowcliff Road, Scarborough, was sentenced at York Crown Court on Friday after previously pleading guilty to robbery and possessing a bladed article in a public place.

The incident occurred at Manor Road Stores at around 5.15pm on 30 March 2022.

Wearing a hooded top with a surgical mask covering his face, Stone approached the shop worker while holding the knife and demanded that she opened the till.

He pushed her away and he grabbed cash before making off on foot.

Detective Constable Steve Monty, from Scarborough and Ryedale CID, led the investigation which resulted in Stone’s arrest and being put before the courts.

He said:

“Nathan Stone caused severe upset and anguish to the shop worker when he confronted her with a knife during the robbery. He also created real fear in the wider Scarborough community while he was being tracked by the police.

“It is pleasing that he has been brought to justice and handed a substantial prison sentence as a consequence of his shameful actions.”
