Other nearby vessels came to the aid of the crew, just off East pier, who were wearing lifejackets and had a means for calling for help.
In a statement released earlier, Scarborough Lifeboat Station said:
Scarborough inshore lifeboat RNLB John Wesley Hillard IV launched after been tasked at 14.43 on Saturday 24th May 2025 by HM Coastguard to assist a capsized vessel with 2 persons in the water just off East Pier.
When the inshore lifeboat was making it's way several other passing vessels came to assist the casualty vessel and the persons in the water. As the vessel was undertow the inshore lifeboat assisted the casualties who had the correct safety equipment and were wearing lifejackets.
The Inshore lifeboat helm said: we launched quickly and luckily due to the help of several passing vessels the two people who needed emergency assistance got help quickly.
As the two casualties were wearing lifejackets and had a means for calling for help they managed to gain help quickly.
Accidents happen and you, or your crew, can end up in the water unexpectedly. Our lifeboat crews will respond immediately but we’re not always close by.Wearing a lifejacket will buy you precious time until help arrives. Correctly fitted and maintained, a lifejacket will help you to float even if you’re unconscious. It dramatically increases your chances of survival if you fall into the water. If you’re in the sea and you’re wearing a lifejacket, you’re four times more likely to survive.
