NHS Trust boss says that work on building a new emergency department is progressing well
Building work on Scarborough Hospitals new Emergency Department is on track and the new facility is expected to open in early 2024.
The Chief Executive of the York and Scarborough NHS Trust - Simon Morritt - says the work is going well.
Work on the £47m redevelopment started in March, before the trust had received full sign off on the funding.
The project will deliver a new building for the Hospital providing a combined Emergency Department, Same Day facilities and Acute Medical Unit as well as combined level 1, 2 and 3 Critical Care facilities.
Simon Morritt says there is a long-term commitment to Scarborough Hospital by both the trust and the wider NHS.
As Simon told county councillors that construction of the hospitals new emergency department is on track, he was asked what he thought the hospital in Scarborough would look like in 20 year's time.
The £47million scheme to build the new Urgent and Emergency Care Centre at Scarborough Hospital is the largest capital scheme ever undertaken by the York and Scarborough NHS Trust. The new centre is planned to open in the Spring of 2024.
