Scarborough had been 2-0 up at one stage at newly-promoted Radcliffe FC, but let their lead slip twice, including an injury-time equaliser to make it 3-3.
Radcliffe came closest to opening the scoring, hitting the post after just 7 minutes.
But it was Scarborough who took the lead in the 23rd minute, Dom Tear tapping in from close range from a low cross.
Scarborough found themselves 2-0 up in what had been a fairly even first half, a lovely through ball finding Tear who let rip from the edge of the penalty area to bag his 2nd.
But just a couple of minutes later, Radcliffe pulled a goal back with a brilliantly-struck free kick from the edge of the penalty area from debutant Tom Walker, which hit the top left corner of Ryan Whitley's goal.
Scarborough conceded again early in the 2nd half, Walker setting up Josh Hancock to level the scores.
But despite letting a two-goal lead slip, Scarborough started to put the pressure back on the home side and were rewarded with Dom Tear scoring his hat-trick from close range, much to the delight of the hundreds of Seadogs fans behind that goal.
New rules mean teams can make up to five substitutions in a match and both sides did just that, meaning a total of 32 players played their part in an entertaining match in warm conditions.
And one of those Radcliffe subs, Anthony Dudley scored from 15 yards out in the 93rd minute to break the hearts of Scarborough fans, meaning the points were shared.
Scarborough next face Rushall Olympic at home on Saturday 17th August, kick off 3pm.
