Students and staff at Scarborough College are celebrating after the class of 2026 achieved an impressive average score of 33 points in their International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme.
Students, families, and staff at Scarborough College have come together to celebrate another exceptional year of academic achievement following the publication of the 2026 International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme results.
The class of 2026 secured a highly impressive average score of 33 points. According to the college, this figure sits at least two points above the global average and represents one of the highest points scores since the institution became an International Baccalaureate World School in June 2006.
The school notes that this average score is the equivalent of achieving AAB grades at A Level. Furthermore, six students achieved scores of 40 points and above. This places them in the top ten per cent of students globally and is equivalent to a UCAS A Level tariff score of four A* grades.
The results have highlighted the transformative educational environment at the college. Statistics provided by the school show a value-added score of 0.8 per subject and 0.6 per grade, meaning that students achieved significantly higher grades than what might have been expected of them upon their entry into the Sixth Form. The college says this demonstrates the exceptional success made by students under the care of the teaching staff.

Mr Guy Emmett, Headmaster of Scarborough College, expressed his delight at the achievements of the class of 2026. He said:
"I am incredibly proud of our 2026 IBDP cohort. It is the first group of students that I have had the pleasure of seeing through from Year 7 and I am pleased to see it is one of the highest averages in recent years. From Abi, who joined us from Driffield seven years ago, to students such as Isidora, who achieved 43 points, putting her in the top two percent of IB candidates in the world; this group of students have excelled. Finally, I want to thank our teaching colleagues, who have gone above and beyond to achieve the very best results across the different departments. We have exceptional teachers and the value added reflects the support students receive academically and pastorally."
Many local students are now preparing to depart for top universities across the United Kingdom, including the London School of Economics, King’s College London, and other leading Russell Group institutions.
Among the individual success stories is Sarah, a highly respected music scholar who scored 41 points and is heading to the University of Durham. Abi, originally from Driffield, also achieved 41 points and will continue her studies with a Veterinary Medicine degree at Nottingham. Meanwhile, Malachi will be travelling slightly further afield to study microbiology at Queen’s University Belfast.
However, not all students will be swapping Scarborough College for university life immediately. Darcy, who achieved three points higher than predicted, will be focusing on work experience in the automotive and luxury yachts industries. Charlie is also entering the automotive and engineering industry after securing a degree apprenticeship with Rolls Royce.
Ms Katie Cooke, the International Baccalaureate Coordinator at the college, praised the students for their hard work. She added:
"The IB Diploma is widely regarded as the gold standard of sixth-form education, preparing young people not just for university, but for the modern world. This year's cohort has shown incredible dedication. From the 12% of students achieving elite scores above 40 points to the students who blew their predicted grades out of the water, today is a massive celebration of their character and determination."
With leavers heading off to pursue degrees in subjects ranging from Medicine to Architecture, alongside inspiring degree apprenticeships, the college says a bright future awaits the class of 2026.
