Scarborough Care Group Scoops Top Awards

A Scarborough care group is celebrating after picking up two top awards at a prestigious ceremony celebrating the work done to look after older and vulnerable people.

Saint Cecilia’s Care Group won awards at the Yorkshire and Humberside heat of the Great British Care Awards, held at the National Railway Museum in York.

Donna Henderson, who is Registered Manager at Saint Cecilia’s Nursing Home and Saint Cecilia’s Care Home, won the Registered Manager Awards at the event.

And Lesley Burr, a carer at Saint Cecilia’s Nursing Home, won the Dignity in Care Award.

Care group Managing Director Mike Padgham said:

“We were absolutely thrilled to win the awards and to have other members of the team finalists too, it was a tremendous honour.

“For Donna it is due recognition of the amazing work she has done for us over the years and especially these past 20 months.

“As if managing the nursing home through Covid-19 was not challenging enough, Donna also stepped up when we needed a manager for the care home and is now running two homes through the most challenging of periods.

“Lesley’s award rewards her passion for ensuring residents’ needs and wishes are observed and respected, down to the smallest detail.

“She is a true champion for the residents, striving to ensure each and every one has what they need, is listened to, understood and looking and feeling their best, every day.

“These awards are a tribute to them and to the excellent staff we have across Saint Cecilia’s Care Group who do amazing work, 24/7, 365 days a year.”

Other Saint Cecilia’s Nursing Home finalists at the awards were: Charlotte Henderson, a finalist for the Care Newcomer Award; Josh Ramsden, Care Newcomer Award; Daniella Botelho, End of Life Care Award and Claudia Silva, Nurse Award.

Meanwhile the nursing home was a runner-up in the Nursing in Social Care Award at this year’s Nursing Times Awards. The home had been shortlisted for its role as a designated setting, taking in discharged Covid-19 patients from hospital during the pandemic.
