Scarborough Borough Vaccine Numbers Fall as Infection Rate Increases

Friday, 19 March 2021 09:32

By Carl Gavaghan, Local Democracy Reporter

The number of vaccines administered in the Scarborough Borough has fallen for the second week running.

The NHS has released figures showing that in the period up to March 14 a total of 48,836 people have now had the jab, an increase of 2,758 on seven days earlier.

The number of vaccines given has now dropped for the last two weeks as 3,211 jabs were delivered in the week up to March 7, following 4,451 in the seven days before that.

The vaccine is now available to anyone over the age of 50s.

Speaking earlier this week, Amanda Bloor, NHS North Yorkshire CCG accountable officer, said that “variations” in the numbers were to be expected.

She said:

“We have seen variation across North Yorkshire and indeed across the whole country throughout the whole program and the variation is determined by vaccination supply both locally and nationally, and also progress against each of the individual cohorts by the individual sectors.

“It is a national program so we would expect to see variations but we have got plans in place to comply with those national targets by April 15 for the over 50s and by July 31 for the rest of the adult population.”

Meanwhile, the Scarborough Borough coronavirus rate has jumped up slightly.

The borough’s seven-day infection rate per 100,000 people is up to 32, after three days in a row at 30.

The borough continues to average five new cases every day but no longer has the lowest rate in North Yorkshire having been passed by Ryedale and Craven.

Mobile testing facilities will once again be available in Whitby, Scarborough and Filey this weekend for anyone with symptoms to get tested.

William Street Coach Park in Scarborough is also still offering testing seven days a week from 8am until 8pm.

Tests can be booked at www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test.
