Scarborough Borough Candidates for New North Yorkshire Council Revealed

Those elected on May 5th will serve a year on North Yorkshire County Council before becoming the first councillors on the new unitary authority in April 2023.

Details of candidates standing in the upcoming North Yorkshire elections, which will be held on Thursday 5 May, have been published today.

Councillors elected will serve one year on North Yorkshire County Council and then four years on the new single council for North Yorkshire, which will operate from 1 April 2023.

The new council will replace the current county council, Scarborough Borough Council and the six other district and borough councils in North Yorkshire.

The candidates standing in divisions in the borough of Scarborough area are:

All election counts will take place throughout North Yorkshire on Friday 6 May.

To vote in the elections, people must register to vote by Thursday 14 April at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote.

The deadline to apply for a postal vote is 5pm, Tuesday 19 April.

The deadline to apply for a proxy vote, that is when a voter applies for someone they trust to vote for them, is 5pm, Tuesday 26 April.
