Scarborough Athletic manager Jono Greening and midfielder Alex Purver are preparing for their crucial National North Eliminator match against Buxton on Tuesday, with the winners advancing to face South Shields.
Scarborough Athletic are gearing up for a monumental fixture this week as they travel to face Buxton in a highly anticipated National North Eliminator clash on Tuesday evening.
The stakes for the crucial fixture could not be higher for the Seadogs, with the winners of the tie securing a place in the next round, where a challenging semi-final trip to South Shields awaits this coming Saturday.
Manager Jono Greening and midfielder Alex Purver are both eagerly looking forward to the away trip, knowing that their squad is now within touching distance of achieving a remarkable promotion.
Boro booked the tie by finishing sixth in National North as Rio Allan netted in a 1-1 draw at Bedford Town on Saturday.
Greening said:
"That's the the main focus, we just had a chat about it in there. We're so close to to getting promoted and it's all about who performs on the night, Tuesday against Buxton, we know it's a tough tie, but listen if you turn up, all 11 players turn up and the lads who come off the bench turn up, we can give it a right go."
At the beginning of the season, bookmakers had heavily tipped the team for relegation, making their journey to the Peak District an incredible achievement that has firmly proved their critics wrong.
Scarborough Athletic have had to play their 'home' matches at Bridlington due to ongoing structural work at Scarborough Sports Village.
They will face a Buxton side that operates as a full-time outfit, benefiting from a significantly larger budget and considerably more time on the training ground to prepare and work on tactical elements.
However, the complete lack of external expectation has allowed the Scarborough squad to play with total freedom, fully aware that the pressure rests firmly on the shoulders of their full-time hosts.
Purver added:
"There's absolutely no pressure on us at all and there's not been any pressure on us at all in this in this playoff push from the start of the season. I'd like to remind people bookmakers had us favourites for relegation at the start of the year. Like we've proved every single person wrong all the way through and we're now in an incredible position to go there to Buxton, who will be favourites which is fantastic- credit to them- they're a full-time team who've got a much bigger budget than us. They get the opportunity to work on lots more things than us, I know people there who have coached previously at Leeds United who speak really highly of it. So yeah we go there, we've absolutely no pressure on us at all, off the back of an unbelievable season but really excited yeah to make make more memories and have an incredible evening there."
Kick off is 7.45pm.
For anyone unable to make the trip, there's live commentary on This Is The Coast Extra from 7pm when Paddy will bring you all the pre-match build up.
