The Seadogs faced Derbyshire side Alfreton at the Mounting Systems Stadium on Tuesday night.
The returning Harry Green fired just over on 11 minutes for Boro.
The Seadogs then came closer still as Alex Brown clipped wide.
Green then struck the crossbar on 21 minutes and Luca Colville found the side netting, soon after.
Boro appeals for a penalty for handball were waved away shortly before Jake Hull's bullet header was saved.
The visitors then had two gilt-edged chances just before half-time.
First, debutant defender Noah Wadsworth cleared off his own goal-line, then Ryan Whitley touched onto the crossbar with the ball dropping on the Boro line before the gloveman clutched.
It was a sign of what was to come after the interval as Brown and Whitley executed crucial blocks to help earn a point for their side.
Attendance: 509
The Seadogs are back in action on Saturday when they go to Macclesfield with a 3pm start.
