Scarborough Athletic Back In The Shake Up

The Seadogs returned to the National North play-off positions on Saturday.

Boro picked up a 1-0 victory over Curzon Ashton at the Mounting Systems Stadium.

An early strike from Kieran Weledji proved enough to see off their North West visitors.

Boro boss Jono Greening told SAFC TV it was a crucial victory:

" Yeah, very important three points. We said to the boys before the game that obviously they're only four points behind us. We wanted to put a good performance on to keep that gap and obviously get back in the play-offs, which I think we've done if I'm right. So we've put a bit of pressure on other teams as well.

"For the first half, we played some really good stuff, obviously in difficult conditions. Again, probably should have scored another two or three. I think the keeper has made an absolute world class safe to stop Rio [Allan]. He's probably had another three or four attempts, but listen, it's nice to get the three points good to get a clean sheet.

"I thought the boys' attitude and application was absolutely fantastic again."

Greening continued to pay tribute to his side:

"You can't fault the players' efforts. Listen, the pitch is absolutely heavy as anything. They've had a game, last Saturday, Tuesday night on a heavy pitch again, trained, played again on a heavy pitch. It takes a lot out of the boys.

"I thought, we tried to keep the subs as long as possible because we didn't feel like in any danger or anything, but we wanted to bring the subs on the last 15, 20 minutes to really bring that injection of freshness into the team, which I thought they did.

"But the second half was always going to be different to the first, because like I said, the manager and the staff and you could hear them shouting through the walls. We just said to the boys, at half time, listen, let's just do a real professional performance, second half. Yes, we want to score another goal or two.

"But the main aim is a clean sheet. And we've got the clean sheet, we've got the one nil, we've got the three points, so everyone's happy."
