Scarborough’s newest Arts Centre will host the opening of a new contemporary art exhibition on Saturday.
The Old Parcels Office at Scarborough Station will be hosting FIRE AND WATER, a solo exhibition by sculpture and print maker, Andi Dakin.
Andi has exhibited widely across the north of England and is no stranger to Scarborough having previously exhibited at the Scarborough Art Gallery in the 1990’s
Sally Gorham Chair of Scarborough Studios which runs the Old Parcels Office said
“we are delighted to have an exhibition by Andi Dakin as our opening show. The Old Parcels Office has been closed for over 2 years due to COVID and a major programme of upgrading. We have exciting plans for future exhibitions and events that should really put the Old Parcels Office and Scarborough on the map as a major centre for contemporary arts.”

Andi’s attention grabbing use of colour and the playful, mischievous use of everyday objects make his sculptures a hit with both children and adults. When asked about his work Andi said
“ my sculptures are in many ways an extension of my playful self, I try to be open minded and to see the potential in the surfaces and forms of the everyday things we have around us. I’m not constrained by working in one medium and I’m equally happy exploring the potential of print making.”
Andi’s print making is equally innovative and later in October, Andi will be leading a printmaking workshop where participants will have the chance to make their own prints and to contribute to Andi’s record beating ‘Longest Lino Print in the United Kingdom’ which is currently over 35metres in length.
Fire and Water opens on 16th October with a preview event at 2pm and will continue on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays 11am – 4pm until 31st October.
There will be a free talk about the exhibition by the artist on 23rd October at 10:30. This will be followed at by a workshop lead by the artist.
Tickets for the workshop are available through the Old Parcels Office website.
