Alison Hume has welcomed the government's inquiry into mental health services at the NHS Trust covering the Whitby area.
She issued the following statement:
“As MP for Scarborough and Whitby, I welcome the Health Secretary’s decision to announce a public inquiry into the mental health services at Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys (TEWV) NHS Foundation Trust.
“Some of my constituents have been personally affected by terrible, tragic incidents which have occurred to loved ones who were under TEWV’s care in the past. I have campaigned on their behalf since being elected to parliament, whilst also recognising the many hard-working, dedicated staff employed by the trust.
“Because this is a statutory enquiry, it has legal powers to compel witnesses produce documents and give evidence under oath.
“I sincerely hope that the brave families who have asked for this will now get the truth and accountability they deserve.”
