Alison Hume, the Member of Parliament for Scarborough and Whitby, has lauded the organisers of Scarborough Pride in a parliamentary address.
Acknowledging their efforts in promoting inclusivity and diversity within the community, Alison Hume highlighted the significance of the annual event, particularly in combating the sense of isolation experienced by LGBT+ residents.
This year's Scarborough Pride event is scheduled for 13th September and promises to celebrate "inclusivity, diversity, and love on the Yorkshire coast". The event will take place at Scarborough Spa from 12pm to 6pm.
Acknowledging the challenges faced by charities, Hume noted that "funding, as for so many other charities, has been a struggle for the organizers who all give their time for free".
The MP paid tribute to the volunteers and extended an appeal for support to ensure the success of this year's Pride event. Those interested in supporting Scarborough Pride can explore sponsorship opportunities, donate via the Just Giving link, or participate in the Rainbow Lottery.
In conjunction with LGBT+ History Month, an exhibition of photos from the previous year's Scarborough Pride is on display at the Scarborough Art Gallery. The MP lamented that comments on an article about the exhibition on a newspaper website had to be disabled "because of the vile nature of many of the posts" and reaffirmed her commitment "to playing my part in the push towards progress towards the future where our children can live their lives free from judgment and discrimination and they can be their best, brightest, and authentic selves".
The new photography exhibition celebrating Scarborough's LGBTQ plus community runs until 26th April at Scarborough Art Gallery.
Picturing Pride is a series of photographs from Aidan Brooks, designed to promote individuality and pride.
The exhibition sets the stage for the next big event on the Scarborough Pride calendar: Scarborough Pride 2025, which will take place on Saturday, 13th September, 2025.
