Alison Hume has given her views on those who lost the Labour whip as she opened a new base in the centre of Scarborough.
The Scarborough and Whitby MP's office is on Northway, opposite the Stephen Joseph Theatre.
She says it's important for residents to be able to reach her easily.
The Labour MP recently voted against controversial proposed government welfare cuts:
"I think what happened with the welfare bill was my constituents knew that I was standing up for people on personal independence payment. I worked really hard negotiating with the government to get that clause removed, so I voted with the government on the second reading. But when it came to the third reading, I was really unhappy about some of the things that still remained in the bill, namely cuts to the health element of universal credit.
"I didn't feel that MP should be asked to vote on that without. Proper impact assessment and therefore that's why I voted against the government. It wasn't an easy decision. I am a loyal member of the government. As for colleagues who've had the wit withdrawn, I understand that wasn't over primarily just the welfare bill, but behaviours over many months and years."
She continues to be vocal about issues like the proposed development in Cayton:
"Obviously the people of Cayton, they're living in a seaside village and suddenly they find out they're part of the local plan and the new homes accelerated for two and a half thousand new homes. So I held an Ask Alison public event there, because I really want to understand the nuts and bolts of it, really.
"It's not just enough for me to say, oh, you're going to get the houses and suck it up. I don't believe that. It's a beautiful village and I have to say there was a lot of strong feeling in the room because they've had developments there before and the developers haven't built the stuff that they promised.
"So there's issues with roads, access to GPs, sewage issues. So I've raised that at government level and I'm going to keep raising it to make sure we get the infrastructure alongside the homes."
