Scarborough and Whitby's MP has been discussing a new neighbourhood plan for the area.
Alison Hume was asked by Eastfield Councillor Tom Seston the difference between the plan generated under the previous Tory government and the current version under Labour:
" You referenced investment there in the area needs the government's long-term plan for neighbourhoods, the 20 million pound over 10 years. You said in March that you were thrilled and delighted that the money was allocated and that it stands in contrast to the conservatives, unfunded and failed approach.
"Yet when the scheme was first announced in October, 2023, you described it as barely more than shiny headlines, chaos and delays. And quite frankly, insulting to think it makes up for 13 years of neglect. I'm wondering which specific part of the rebranding made a difference for you?"
She responded:
"The difference is that the money that 20 million over 10 years will be invested into the priorities that local people bring forward.
" The previous town deal was quite restricted, although there'd been some fantastic results. It was quite restricted in what the money could be spent on. So the main difference is the neighbourhood plan is part of the government strategy going forward. It's not going to be, it's not going to be a case that the money will be withdrawn.
"That money is there and that's that is coming and it will be spent on projects which are a priority for the people of Scarborough, and that's the main difference between this iteration and the previous one."
