The government are opening up £360 million of funding for generating renewable energy and the Yorkshire Coast could benefit.
North Yorkshire Council say they've already been in touch with the key players.
The authority's Head of Harbours is Chris Bourne:
"We have already begun engagement. I was at a meeting with the offshore renewable industry last week to talk to them about how we can accommodate them within Scarborough Harbour and within Whitby Harbour and we will continue that engagement."
He added that harbour users will soon be contacted:
"We're also looking at exploring external funding opportunities and there was an announcement, last week, that the government is about to open a new £360 million pound funding channel, in relation to the offshore renewables market. We will be talking to harbour users in the near future about ways that we can access that fund, for their benefit, and for the benefit of the harbours."
