West End star Lee Mead and Coronation Street actress Katie McGlynn will headline this year's magical production of Robin Hood and the Babes in the Wood at the Scarborough Spa Theatre.
Scarborough Spa and Tony Peers Ltd have announced that this year's pantomime at the Spa Theatre will be a production of Robin Hood and the Babes in the Wood.
The festive show, which is set to run from the 4th of December 2026 until the 3rd of January 2027, will feature a star-studded cast to entertain audiences on the Yorkshire Coast.
Organisers have confirmed that the acclaimed singer, actor, and West End star Lee Mead will take on the villainous role of The Sheriff of Nottingham.
Mead first shot to national prominence in 2007 after winning the BBC television series Any Dream Will Do, which led to him taking the lead role of Joseph in the West End. His subsequent single release entered the UK Singles Download Charts and peaked at number two.
Since his television talent show success, Mead has enjoyed an extensive stage career, taking on the role of Fyero in the musical Wicked to critical acclaim in 2010, and playing Emmett Forrest in the smash hit musical Legally Blonde at the Savoy Theatre in London's West End in 2011. He has also starred in a touring production of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and performed in pantomime at the legendary London Palladium alongside Julian Clary and Paul O'Grady.
Television audiences will also recognise Mead from his time on the BBC medical dramas Casualty and Holby City, where he played the popular character Nurse Ben 'Lofty' Chiltern.
Mead has also released several successful albums, including his fourth album Some Enchanted Evening, which reached the Top 20 in February 2016. He recently fulfilled a childhood ambition by performing in front of the Royal Family at the Royal Albert Hall Festival of Remembrance Concert, sharing the stage with artists such as James Blunt, Leona Lewis, and Rick Astley. Throughout his career, he has duetted with popular artists including Josh Groban, Susan Boyle, and Donny Osmond, and he is currently writing and recording his sixth studio album.
Joining Mead as the co-headline star will be the actress Katie McGlynn, who has been cast in the role of Maid Marion.
McGlynn is best known for her seven-year stint playing Sinead Tinker in the ITV soap opera Coronation Street. Her tragic exit storyline from the programme was nominated for the Must See Moment BAFTA in 2020, and she won Best Serial Drama Performance at the National Television Awards in the same year.
The actress has also appeared in Hollyoaks and Waterloo Road, and she competed for the iconic glitter ball trophy in the 2021 series of Strictly Come Dancing with her professional dance partner Gorka Marquez. On the stage, McGlynn has starred in the United Kingdom and Ireland tour of Murder at Midnight, as well as the national tour of Peter James's I Wish You Were Dead.
