Scalby Fair returns this weekend with a packed schedule of entertainment, local stalls, and strong community volunteer support.
Anticipation is building ahead of this weekend's spectacular Scalby Fair, as organisers prepare to welcome crowds for a vibrant celebration of community spirit.
The highly anticipated event promises a packed schedule of entertainment, local stalls, and interactive activities, all made possible by an impressive turnout of local volunteers.
Michael Whiteley, the publicity officer for Scalby Fair, has expressed his excitement ahead of the weekend's festivities. He noted that the success of the event relies heavily on the dedication of the local community, highlighting the remarkable number of people who have offered their time to ensure the day runs smoothly.
Michael said:
"We've got masses of volunteers again this year and that really did help last year. I think we had over 70, and we've got similar numbers again. People who have just got engaged with Scalby Fair. They're not committee members as such, but they just want to help out. It's a lovely community event, and they just enjoy helping."
The fair is scheduled to officially run through the afternoon, offering a wide array of attractions designed to appeal to visitors of all ages. Organisers have arranged for multiple designated areas, including a demonstration garden and a challenge garden, to host the diverse range of activities.
Attendees will have the opportunity to get up close with nature, as both reptiles and birds of prey will be featured in one of the gardens. Meanwhile, sports enthusiasts can test their skills against the local football team, who will be running interactive challenges.
With an increased number of food outlets available, organisers anticipate that visitors will linger well into the late afternoon to enjoy the atmosphere. To help navigate the extensive offerings, additional signage has been implemented across the site.
Detailing the schedule and the layout of the event, Michael said:
"It's mid-day till four, people tend to stick around a bit longer these days. There's lots of food outlets these days. So it tends to be busy a bit longer than four, but the actual entertainment activity is until 4:00, but there's various other gardens. We've got the reptiles and the birds of prey in in a garden. We've got a demonstration garden, a challenge garden. We've got the local football team doing beat the goalie and dribbling tasks, etc. So there's loads and loads to do and we've increased the signage this year because there's so much going on, it's important we tell people what's going on so they find every little bit of the fair."
In addition to the interactive gardens and sports challenges, the fair will feature traditional fun fairs and a strong line-up of live performances. The entertainment programme has been developed in collaboration with local community groups.
A particular highlight of the day will be the performances by Kelletts Performing Arts, with 12-year-old Britain's Got Talent prodigy Nancy Tilley playing a key role in providing much of the day's entertainment. The event has also proven incredibly popular with local vendors, as stall spaces were snapped up rapidly by businesses eager to participate.
Looking ahead to the vibrant community gathering, Michael added:
"We're working together with local dance groups etc. but particularly Kelletts performing arts who, Nancy Tilley is also part of. She's providing a lot of the a lot of the entertainment, but we've got fun fairs and, yeah, oh they say the stalls were booked up really quickly this year and, yeah, no, it's a we're just just looking forward to another great day."
With preparations now in their final stages, the team behind Scalby Fair is ready to deliver another memorable weekend of entertainment for the local community.
