Scarborough Lions Club say they wont be able to run the popular Santa Sleigh Tour this year.
The charity fundraising event has been a mainstay of the festive calendar in Scarborough for many years.
This year the Scarborough Lions club say the situation with COVID has forced them to take the decision to rest their sleigh for the year.
In a statement the club say..
It is with much sadness and regret that we have taken the decision not to take our sleigh out on the streets of Scarborough this year.
With the current health risks, Government restrictions and sheer logistics of collecting, it would unwise to put our Club members and members of the public at risk.
We are hopeful however that we might still be able to take our sleigh to Morrison’s, Sainsbury’s and Proudfoots for collections later in December. We are currently in discussions with them to see how we can achieve this.
This is our first non-weather related sleigh cancellation for many years. Sadly this means that our ability to help those in need over the next few months will be adversely affected. We will however continue to help them as much as we possibly can.
Hopefully things will get back to normal soon and we can get our sleigh back on the road in 2021. In the meantime please stay safe and healthy.
