Satellite technology could be used to plug some broadband gaps in East Yorkshire.
Satellites and 5G connectivity could be used to provide high speed broadband to remote parts of East Yorkshire.
It's part of a drive to ensure rural businesses such as farms are able to get gigabit connections.
East Riding Councillor - Charlie Dewhirst - says there are still significant gaps in internet connectivity.
East Riding Council is involved in a project to see how gigabit broadband could be delivered to remote rural locations.
The council says a contractor is expected to be appointed shortly to deliver a regional programme of rural broadband upgrades.
Brigette Giles is the council's Director of Digital, Change and Technology.
At 82% Broadband coverage, the East Riding is above the UK Gigabit Coverage average of 77%, but to achieve the government’s target of 85% by 2025, the Council is working with Building Digital UK (BDUK) on Project Gigabit to deliver gigabit-capable connectivity to eligible premises. The majority of premises in the East Riding are in the Government’s Lot 23 procurement activity, which is currently taking place, with a build start date anticipated in the Summer of 2024. The scheme has an outline investment of an estimated £119m, and would cover 75,000 premises.
