Aaron Padgham is taking on the London Marathon to raise £2,500 for Dementia UK to support families affected by the condition across the region.
The Managing Director of a local care group is preparing to lace up his running shoes and take on the London Marathon to raise vital funds for a national dementia charity.
Aaron Padgham, who leads the Saint Cecilia’s Care Group, will participate in the famous endurance event in the capital on Sunday the 26th of April.
The demanding physical challenge combines his personal determination with a deep commitment to supporting families affected by dementia, with all funds raised going directly to Dementia UK.
While this will be his third marathon, having previously completed the twenty-six-mile courses in Edinburgh and Manchester, the London event represents a significant milestone for the care group director.
Aaron Padgham said:
"The London Marathon is something I’ve always wanted to do. The atmosphere, the scale, the energy - it’s unlike anything else. To be able to take part while supporting a cause that means so much makes it even more special."
The funds raised from the marathon will support Dementia UK, a charity that provides specialist support to families across the country through its dedicated Admiral Nurses.
According to the charity, the work of these nurses offers essential practical advice and emotional support to those navigating the difficult realities of dementia, which is often during some of the most challenging periods in their lives.
Through his extensive personal and professional experience, Mr Padgham has witnessed the far-reaching impact that dementia can have, not only on those living with the condition but also on their families, carers, and loved ones.
Aaron Padgham said:
"I’ve seen how devastating dementia can be, and also how vital the right support is. Dementia UK’s Admiral Nurses make a real difference to families when they need it most. That’s why I wanted to support them."
To support his marathon efforts, he has set a fundraising target of £2,500.
He is backing this ambitious goal through a range of fundraising activities, which he is balancing alongside his rigorous marathon training schedule.
Strong progress has already been made towards this target, with funds raised through donations collected during a special 'Tea Trolley Dash' across the Saint Cecilia’s Care Group.
During this unique initiative, he visited various care homes to engage directly with residents, staff members, and visiting families.
The care group states that the trolley dash initiative not only generated valuable financial contributions but also helped to raise vital awareness of his upcoming physical challenge and the essential work carried out by Dementia UK.
Aaron Padgham added:
"Every pound raised will help Dementia UK reach more families. For me, this is about more than just completing a marathon - it’s about doing something meaningful and helping others through what can be an incredibly challenging time."
Saint Cecilia’s Care Group has been providing specialist dementia care services across the North Yorkshire communities of Scarborough, Whitby, and Pickering for more than thirty-five years.
