Saint Catherine's Announce Date for Bring a Pound to Work Day

Bring a Pound to work day is returning to the Yorkshire Coast on Tuesday July 4th.

Saint Catherine's has teamed up with This is the Coast and The Scarborough Business Ambassadors to stage the mammoth fundraising day.

It will be on Tuesday July 4th.

Local firms are being invited to sign up from today.

Mark Catchpole from the Business Ambassadors says it's an important day of fundraising.

The idea of Bring a Pound to Work Day is as simple as it sounds – businesses across the local area encourage their staff to ‘bring a pound to work’ and all the proceeds go towards helping Saint Catherine’s look after patients and their families, both in the hospice and at home.

The teams from Saint Catherine's, This is the Coast and the Scarborough Business Ambassadors will be on the road collecting your coins on July 4th.

This is the Coast will turn it's entire day of broadcasting over to the event and will be broadcasting live updates from around the route as the Yorkshire Coast comes together to support Saint Catherine's

Tom Thornton is Saint Catherine's fundraising manager, he says it's a key day in Saint Catherine's year.

Saint Catherine’s is a Scarborough-based hospice but the team provide care throughout 1,600 square miles of North and East Yorkshire. All of their services are provided free of charge, meaning that they rely on fundraising to help raise the £5million a year it costs to care for their patients.

Mark Catchpole says that Saint Catherine's has a special connection with people on the Yorkshire Coast, he is asking as many businesses to sign up as possible.

Jo Thompson, chair of Scarborough Business Ambassadors, said:

“We are delighted once again to support Saint Catherine's Hospice and This is the Coast with such an essential fundraiser which helps the hospice provide free services, costing them around £5million per year.

“Most of us have been directly or indirectly touched by cancer at some point in our lives and the commitment of Saint Catherine’s, in providing the best possible care and quality of life for those with life limiting illnesses as an inpatient or within the 1,600 square miles of North and East Yorkshire, is phenomenal.

“We would like to urge everyone living in Saint Catherine’s catchment to help us make Bring a Pound to Work Day 2023 the most successful yet - particularly a loud shout out to the business community, large, medium or small. For our part, we will visit businesses and organisations together with staff from the hospice and radio station to help receive your generous donations, whatever you can offer.

“Every pound that is raised helps to safeguard local services. Help us to share the spirit of kindness that Saint Catherine's symbolises, especially at this time, when are facing a double whammy of increased demand and cost pressures including inflation, rising energy bills and falling donations in general.”

Businesses can sign up to take part in Bring a Pound to work day at www.thisisthecoast.co.uk/poundtowork

A poster can also be downloaded for business taking part to display to help spread the word.
