Progress with Scarborough Roadworks

Stepney Road & Scalby Road at The Crown Tavern junction have reopened to traffic as part of junction improvement works.

The major improvement works began in January as the final phase of the £4m upgrade programme got underway.

The works are due to finished later in April. today North Yorkshire County Council announced that both Stepney Road & Scalby Road at The Crown Tavern junction have reopened to traffic, but a lane remains closed at the Seamer Road junction while Northern Gas Networks completes its work.

The county council say:

"Last week saw various tasks completed at The Crown Tavern junction. New traffic signal poles and equipment has been installed. Footway resurfacing was also completed as was the carriageway surfacing and lining on Stepney Road.

This week we have started more resurfacing work which we are completing overnight to ensure the scheme progresses well. We apologise to local residents for the disturbance but hopefully the long term benefits will out way the short term disturbance. Northern Gas Network are continuing with their works near Seamer corner to replace the old gas main and we will be starting installation work on the new traffic signals at the Seamer Road, Falsgrave Road junction.

We are hoping to complete the junction two weeks earlier than planned but this is very much dependant on Northern Gas Network completing the replacement of their gas main and when we will be able to resurface the road near Seamer Road corner. We hope to have the Crown Tavern junction open to traffic with the new traffic signals in operation from 1 April. However these new signals will be configured with those at the junction of Falsgrave Road and Seamer Road once the works there have been completed. Initially this may cause slight delays but the junction will be a lot safer for pedestrians to deal with. Thank you to everybody for your continuing patience and understanding during these essential road works."
