Northern Powergrid say a loss of electricity in Scarborough is affecting around 1000 premises.
The power went off just before 6pm. Scarborough Police report that a number of alarms are sounding in the town centre as a result.
Northern Powergrid say
"We are currently working hard to restore your power however we are unable to provide an accurate restoration time. Please call us on 105 if you have any specific questions.The power cut has been caused by an unexpected problem with the cables or equipment that serve your area"
Their website initially suggested an estimated time of 7:30pm to restore power.
They company have now classified the fault as being three separate incidents some of which may not be restored until 10pm.
