Wheeldale Road near Goathland is CLOSED due to a number of vehicles becoming stranded due to snow and ice.
North Yorkshire Police have just posted this statement:
Treacherous road conditions in the North York Moors tonight
We are dealing with several reports of vehicles stuck due to snow and ice north of Pickering.
Conditions on the roads around Goathland are extremely difficult. In particular, Wheeldale Road is impassable, and now closed.
Our officers are attending the location in police 4x4 vehicles, and working hard to ensure everyone is safe.
Please avoid this area. The conditions are treacherous, and bear in mind that mobile phone coverage may be poor. If you're travelling in the North York Moors area tonight, consider finding alternative routes, or postponing your journey. Thank you for your assistance.
