Police Launch Operation Coastline Ahead Of Summer Holidays

Humberside Police has launched its annual Operation Coastline campaign to tackle antisocial behaviour and keep Yorkshire Coast towns like Bridlington safe during the busy summer months.

Humberside Police has launched its annual campaign, Operation Coastline, ahead of the summer holidays to ensure that residents, businesses, and visitors can safely enjoy the Yorkshire Coast.

With the warmer weather bringing more people to coastal towns like Bridlington, the area naturally sees an increase in visitors. Humberside Police notes that this influx can sometimes lead to a rise in issues such as antisocial behaviour and opportunistic crimes.

To combat this, Operation Coastline focuses on keeping coastal resorts welcoming by reducing crime and providing visible reassurance to local communities during the busier months.

The initiative is designed to prevent incidents before they happen and allows officers to respond quickly where needed. Throughout the summer, the force says people can expect to see officers and partners engaging with communities, supporting local businesses, and working with young people to promote positive behaviour.

Superintendent Gary Foster said:

"Operation Coastline has just started again, which is the sort of our annual campaign around particularly in holiday season supporting the coastal areas. So Bridlington etc. will get an additional amount of cops and one of those things is around proms and making sure that people are safe to go back their holiday and general business and so there's a focus on that area for those areas, definitely."

One of the common issues raised by residents and visitors over the summer months is the use of bikes in public areas, particularly along the promenades. Police are urging the public to report these incidents and identify those involved so that officers can take appropriate educational steps.

Speaking about how officers deal with the use of bikes in public areas, Superintendent Gary Foster said:

"often people will know this local kid, this is so and so from, tell us about it and we'll go and have the conversation, because generally, our policing teams can and certainly from a PCSO perspective will go and educate and have a conversation about people and say, you nearly caused this XYZ. I think a lot of the time people say, you're not doing anything about it, but we don't often tell us either. So there's a specific area where we've got an issue, we'll go and target it, and we can use those up coastline resources to go and do that while they're out, and they're out now."

The force states that the campaign is focused on early intervention and building on previous policing activities in the region.

Superintendent Paul French said:

"Our priority is simple. We want people to feel safe and be able to enjoy our coastal communities and resorts.

Operation Coastline is about being visible, approachable, and working with local partners to prevent issues, dealing with concerns early on.

By focusing on reassurance and early intervention we can help make a real difference to those who live, work, and visit here.

This operation builds on previous activity which is already delivered tangible results including tackling road safety issues, addressing anti-social behaviour, and taking action against those causing harm, while holding them to account.

We look forward to sharing regular updates about our activities and results over the weeks and months ahead."

Humberside Police is encouraging the public to report any offences to help them build a bigger picture of local issues and take targeted action. Information can also be reported anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers.
