Pickering Community Interest Company has invited all to the Black Swan in the town on Tuesday night.
The event starts at 6pm and a poster for it says it's presented by Pickering Town Community Interest Company, working with Totally Locally in association with the Mayor's Vibrant and Sustainable Towns Fund.
Pickering Town Council clerk Angela Dawson told This Is The Coast:
'This is actually not a new initiative; like all other local town and parish councils, Pickering Town Council has always been encouraged to have a plan in place to deal with an emergency situation such as a major road accident, power outage, serious flooding, or fire, that might cause significant disruption in the town. The idea would be that volunteers would come together to open rest centres and support residents until the emergency services arrive, and then give any assistance to the emergency services that they needed.
'When the town council realised that the existing emergency plan was out of date discussions were held with Pickering Town Community Interest Company, our local North Yorkshire Councillor, and other interested parties, and a new plan was drawn up. This was done with the support and guidance of the North Yorkshire Council Resilience and Emergencies Team.'
