North Yorkshire Police are seeking assistance from the public following a serious incident involving a pedestrian on Thursday, 23 October.
A woman was struck by a silver or grey car on Victoria Road, near the junction with Westborough, just before 6pm. She sustained serious injuries and has since been admitted to hospital, where she remains.
Authorities are urging anyone who witnessed the collision or possesses dashcam footage from the area around that time to come forward. "Our thanks go to the people who have come forward with information so far," a police spokesperson stated. Those with information can contact TC Nick Simpson via email at nick.simpson@northyorkshire.police.uk or by calling 101, quoting reference number 12250200747.
At the time of the collision, the driver did not stop at the scene, however, he has since come forward and has been arrested on suspicion of a number of offences including dangerous driving and failing to stop. He has been released while under investigation to allow for further enquiries to be carried out.
Amidst the ongoing investigation, police have addressed circulating rumours regarding the driver's identity, specifically denying claims that he is a taxi driver. "We ask members of the public not to speculate," the spokesperson added, emphasising the importance of accurate information during this critical time.
