Papas Fish and Chips has submitted a licensing application to return to its former location on Baxtergate in Whitby following the departure of a major burger chain.
A popular fish and chip restaurant chain could soon be returning to its former location in Whitby, according to new plans submitted by the company.
Papas Fish and Chips is set to return to its previous site situated at 76-79 Baxtergate, located near Whitby’s iconic Swing Bridge.
The prominent town centre building was until recently occupied by the major burger chain Wendy's.
The burger restaurant announced its departure from the location last month amid plans to relocate to a drive-thru in the nearby area.
Now, Papas Fish and Chips, which also operates sites in Scarborough, Hull, and Blackpool, has applied for a new premises licence for the Baxtergate site.
The application proposes the sale of alcohol for consumption both on and off the premises, alongside the playing of recorded music.
Furthermore, the provision of late-night refreshments would also be allowed on the premises as part of the application.
Members of the public who wish to comment on the proposal are able to do so until Wednesday, May 20.
Anyone wanting to make representations regarding the application must give notice in writing to the local authority at North Yorkshire Council, Licensing Services, Town Hall, St Nicholas Street, Scarborough, YO11 2HG.
Comments can also be sent to the authority by email at licensing.east@northyorks.gov.uk.
