Today is Shrove Tuesday and as is custom there will be skipping and pancake racing in Scarborough later.
The annual pancake day race will get underway on Aberdeen Walk at midday, teams will be competing an obstacle course in front of the This is the Coast stage.
Janet Jefferson from the chamber of trade will be one of the judges and says winning is about more than just being flipping fast.

Teams will be battling it out to win the Golden Frying Pan. Local businesses will compete in a fancy dress obstacle course race, while flipping their pancakes. They will be judged on their speed, their costumes and the amount of pancake they manage to keep in their frying pans.
The Mayor will ring the traditional pancake bell at midday signalling the start of racing which will take place over a number of heats with the eventual winners walking away with the coveted golden frying pan. In last year's final the defending champions, Boyes, were beaten by just one point by the Town Centre McDonalds Team.

Later there will be skipping on Foreshore road with hundreds of local schools children expected to take part.
Janet Jefferson says it's a great tradition.
The event is being staged by Scarborough Borough Council with the obstacle course being devised by Everyone Active. Paddy will be hosting the This is the Coast stage from 11:30am.
