Motorists travelling on the A64 are being warned of a series of overnight closures throughout March as National Highways carries out essential resurfacing, maintenance, and tree work.
Drivers in the region face significant disruption this March as a stretch of the A64 is set to undergo maintenance, resulting in a series of overnight road closures.
The works are split into two phases, beginning with resurfacing and maintenance between Staxton and Seamer. This section will be closed in both directions between 16 and 19 March. The closures will take place overnight, running from 9pm to 6am each night, and will conclude on the morning of 19 March. During this period, local access will be maintained, and motorists are being directed to use the A1039 and A165 as a diversion route.
Following the completion of the Staxton to Seamer works, attention will shift to the stretch between the A1237 (Hopgrove) and the A169 (Pickering) interchange. From 19 to 23 March, this section will be closed in both directions between 8pm and 5am to facilitate a range of improvements.
National Highways has confirmed that the scheduled works for this second phase include repairs to damaged sections of the carriageway, essential drainage works, and the removal of trees affected by ash dieback.
A diversion route will be in place for the duration of these works, utilising the A1237, A19, A170, and A169. Officials have confirmed that this route is suitable for all vehicles, including HGVs, and that access for residents and businesses will be maintained throughout the closure period.
"Please allow extra time for your journey if travelling during these hours," a spokesperson for the highways authority advised.
Motorists are being reminded that these plans are subject to change at short notice. Travellers are encouraged to stay updated by checking the latest information on the daily closures page or by monitoring live traffic alerts via the Traffic England website.
