Three projects in Scarborough and Whitby have successfully secured a share of more than £250,000 to help breathe new life into their local high streets and boost the winter economy.
More than a quarter of a million pounds has been awarded to three projects on the Yorkshire Coast to help regenerate local high streets.
The financial boost comes as part of the Vibrant and Sustainable High Street Fund, an initiative spearheaded by the Mayor of York and North Yorkshire, David Skaith.
Mayor Skaith has now officially announced the successful applicants for the third and final phase of this funding scheme, which aims to breathe new life into local communities and support economic growth across the region.
In this latest and final round of the programme, a total of twenty-six projects have been awarded financial support. The combined funding for this phase has reached a substantial £2.3 million.
On the Yorkshire Coast, three specific initiatives have been singled out for investment, bringing more than £250,000 directly to the area.
In Scarborough, two projects are set to benefit significantly from the financial injection. The Eastborough Traders have been awarded £90,000, which will be used to reinvigorate the historic old town, helping to preserve and enhance its unique character for both residents and visitors.
Additionally, Crescent Arts in Scarborough has successfully secured an investment of over £71,000. This funding will be directed towards transforming a vacant shop property located in the Falsgrave area, turning the empty space into a vibrant new creative hub for the local community.
Further up the coast in Whitby, a third project has been granted over £89,000. This initiative is specifically designed to expand the town's schedule of winter events.
The Whitby project will focus on taking the positive economic and social impacts traditionally generated by the Whitby Christmas festivals and extending them further into the winter season. It is hoped that this will encourage visitors to continue supporting the seaside town even during the colder, traditionally quieter months of the year.
