Three creative projects in Scarborough and Whitby will share a portion of a £2.3 million fund designed to regenerate local high streets and boost economic growth on the Yorkshire Coast.
Three ambitious projects across the Yorkshire Coast are set to receive a significant financial boost to help regenerate their local areas.
The Mayor of York and North Yorkshire, David Skaith, has announced the successful applicants for the third and final phase of his Vibrant and Sustainable High Street Fund.
A total of twenty-six projects have been awarded funding in this latest phase, which has a total committed spend of £2,387,514.
The overarching goal of the financial backing is to drive long-term regeneration and strengthen the resilience of local high streets for years to come.
Among the successful applicants are two initiatives in Scarborough and one in Whitby, which together will receive over £250,000 of the allocated budget.
The Mayor of York and North Yorkshire, David Skaith, said:
"High streets are constantly changing, but they have, and always will be, hubs for our communities. The final phase of the High Street Fund has backed 26 creative projects from the people who know their community best. When we work together, we will transform our high streets into vibrant destinations that residents and visitors will want to return to again and again."
In Scarborough, the Eastborough Traders have been awarded exactly £90,000 for their initiative, which is titled Destination Eastborough: Regenerating Local Retail and Hospitality in the Historic Old Town of Scarborough.
The scheme is described as a place-making project designed to breathe new life into the historic area.
It will utilise vibrant art, strategic interventions, rebranding, and coordinated marketing to reinvigorate the neighbourhood.
The funding will be used to support local businesses and inspire visitors to spend more time in the old town.
Also in Scarborough, Crescent Arts has secured £71,263 for a project named Crescent Arts on Tour.
This creative partnership is set to transform a vacant shop in the Falsgrave area into a brand-new creative hub.
The initiative is specifically designed to drive local footfall and bring new activity to empty retail spaces on the high street.
Meanwhile, in Whitby, Psst! Marketing Ltd has been granted £89,353 for a project named the Whitby Winter Event Expansion - Baxtergate and Beyond.
The project aims to bring local pride back to the high street in Whitby town centre.
It will focus on expanding the positive economic and social impact of the Whitby Christmas Festivals further into the winter season, encouraging visitors to continue supporting the town during the colder months.
Since Mayor Skaith first introduced the High Street Fund in February 2024, a total of sixty-five projects have now received financial backing to help them thrive.
The successful coastal projects will now move forward to deliver improvements to their respective local high streets.
The funding is set to revitalise communities across the region, drive economic growth, and enhance the appeal of these coastal towns to both residents and visitors.
