North Yorkshire is braced for the full effects of Omicron to be felt in the coming week.
The county is thought to be a week or two behind places like London in terms of the number of infections.
Chief Nurse Sue Peckitt says while confirmed case numbers were relatively low before Christmas that is now expected to change.
Omicron is now likely to be the dominant form of COVID in North Yorkshire.
Health bosses in the county say the lag between infection and presenting with symptoms means the data has been a couple of weeks behind the situation on the ground.
