North Yorkshire Police is pausing it's recruitment programme for PCSO's.
The force says it has been unable to fill many of the Community Support Officer roles with candidates either applying to be full Police Officers or finding better wages with other employers.
Chief Constable - Lisa Winward - says they are now looking at moving some of the budget set aside for PCSO roles to other areas.
North Yorkshire Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner - Zoe Metcalfe - says there are a number of factors at play.
The force will now pause it's recruitment programme until this time next year as it considers a major overhaul of how it operates to boost visible frontline policing.
The Commissioner said the review would aim to deliver the best possible frontline and visible policing services, while a pause on the recruitment of PCSOs would create the opportunity to “redesign neighbourhood policing”.
