The force will be employing new tech and more staff to improve performance in weeks to come.
North Yorkshire is 24 percent behind the target across the country for the speed at which they answer 101 calls.
The force's Deputy Chief Constable is Scott Bisset.
He says there is another option available to help:
The national target is to answer 80 percent of non emergency calls inside 3 minutes- while North Yorkshire is currently at 56 percent.
Police currently use the Q buster service which they say offers a call back within a reasonable time.
