The most recent crime figures for North Yorkshire show a fall in reported crimes at a time of year when normally there is a slight increase.
Assistant Chief Constable Mark Pannone says the most recent figures show a drop of around four and a half percent:
Crime is down in in the county but theft is up.
Police say when comparing the 12-month figures against the three year trend, there's been an increase in proportions of Violent Crimes, Public Order Offences and Fraud, and a reduced prevalence of Theft.
Assistant Chief Constable Pannone says there has been an increase in the number of thefts from shops in recent weeks:
