Filey Town Council is set to appoint a new permanent town clerk this month.
A full meeting of Filey Town Council is due to approve the appointment of a town clerk and responsible financial officer for the authority on Wednesday, January 7.
The authority’s previous town clerk resigned earlier this year, when eight councillors also resigned, leaving the authority barely quorate and in an “unprecedented” situation.
In November, Paula Shillaw was appointed as interim town clerk and the responsible finance officer.
The agenda for the meeting does not state who has been proposed for the role, and members of the public are set to be excluded from the meeting “on the grounds that it involves the likely disclosure of exempt information”.
Minutes of the council’s staffing committee, which met in late December, have also not been published yet.
The motion for the town clerk and responsible finance officer appointment states: “To consider and agree to the appointment of a new town clerk and responsible finance officer for Filey Town Council based upon a recommendation from the staffing committee following interviews held in December 2025.”
A further full meeting of Filey Town Council has been proposed for the following week on Wednesday, December 14, when applications for a ‘casual vacancy’ will also be considered.
The vacancy for a position on the council arose following the resignation of Cllr Marcus Thrall on November 11.
