The Borough Council's Chief Exec thinks the new unitary authority will be active on coastal issues.
Preparations for the creation of North Yorkshire's new Unitary council will begin to ramp up this week, following the election of it's first batch of councillors last week.
The authority takes over from the county and borough councils next April.
Concerns have been raised that such a big authority might not be fully focused on coastal issues, but the Chief Exec of Scarborough Borough Council - Mike Greene - says the new authority will want to continuing driving local growth, and will have to engage with issues like housing and harbour development.
Mike Greene has been talking about the work being done to help create the new unitary council for North Yorkshire and says the new body will be made fully aware of issues affecting the coast.
He says that affordable housing is one of the issues which the new authority will want to pick up, adding that young people need to be able to afford to live in the Yorkshire Coast's towns if the economy is to prosper.
