A new £1.5m roundabout is to be built on Bempton Lane, in Bridlington.
East Riding of Yorkshire Council is due to start work on the scheme on Monday 1 July to create the four-armed roundabout on Bempton Lane, north of existing houses in Nostell Way.
The roundabout has been designed to provide future access for housing developments which are planned on sites at either side of the road, on sites that are currently fields.
The work is expected to be complete by January 2025.
To enable the construction to be carried out, Bempton Lane, north of Nostell Way, will be temporarily closed to traffic at the location of the work from September to January, with a break for Christmas.
A signed diversion route will be in place, with local traffic encouraged to use Jewison Lane, Short Lane and Newsham Hill Lane.
The project will also create footpaths with a shared cycleway.
The existing 30mph limits also will be extended further north up Bempton Lane to include the new roundabout.
The work will be carried out by council contractor PBS Construction Ltd from Hull.
Adam Holmes, the council’s director of infrastructure and facilities, said:
“We want to thank local residents and drivers in advance for bearing with us while we build this new roundabout.
“The roundabout is necessary to cope with the traffic needing to access the planned new housing developments on either side of this site in Bempton Lane.”
