Local rescue teams have been involved in an operation to assist a man who had fallen down an embankment at Bempton Cliffs.
In a dramatic rescue operation at Bempton Cliffs, the Bridlington Coastguard Rescue Team and Filey Coastguard Rescue Team were joined by the Flamborough RNLI lifeboat, Humberside Police, Yorkshire Ambulance Service, and Humberside Fire and Rescue Service to assist a man who had fallen down an embankment and was unable to recover independently.
Upon receiving the emergency call, the Officer in Charge swiftly directed the coastguard teams to set up a rope rescue system. A technician was lowered to the casualty's location, where he successfully secured the individual in a rescue strop, preparing for extraction.
However, during the recovery attempt, the condition of the man deteriorated, necessitating a change in strategy. The technician, having stabilised the casualty, recognised the challenges posed by the hazardous terrain and requested the assistance of a search and rescue helicopter.
The helicopter arrived quickly and executed a low-level winch operation, successfully lifting the casualty to the cliff top. He was then immediately handed over to the ambulance service for further medical attention. Following this, the coastguard technician was also safely retrieved using the established rope rescue system.
The Coastguard say that this incident underscores the effectiveness of the multi-agency response and the strong collaboration among emergency services, which ensured the safest and most efficient outcome for the casualty.
In case of a coastal emergency, the public is reminded to dial 999 and request the Coastguard.
No further details regarding the incident will be released.
