Scarborough and Ryedale Mountain Rescue Team has celebrated a remarkable milestone as team member Steve Glasper 50 marks years of unwavering service in mountain rescue.
The team held an event, under the guise of a routine team meeting at Ye Olde Forge Valley Inn in West Ayton, on Tuesday evening. The event was a fitting tribute to a man whose commitment to saving lives has spanned five decades.
Steve was surprised with a custom-engraved ice axe, symbolising his outstanding contributions to the team and the community. In addition, he received a bottle of Filey Bay whisky from the Spirit of Yorkshire Distillery, further personalising the occasion.
The rescue team say that the celebration highlighted Steve's extensive experience, which includes countless call-outs, training sessions, and mentoring new members adding:
"His dedication to teamwork and the safety of others has made a significant impact on the mountain rescue community."
"Fifty years of call-outs, training, mentoring, and teamwork is an achievement few can match,"
"Steve’s contribution to mountain rescue — and to SRMRT — is truly exceptional."
As the evening concluded, the team collectively expressed their appreciation, stating,
"From everyone at SRMRT: thank you, Steve, and congratulations on an amazing 50 years."
