The way speed limits are enforced in North Yorkshire is to be the subject of a review by the Police and Crime Commissioners Office.
It could potentially lead to the introduction of fixed speed cameras on the county's roads.
Thomas Thorp is the Police commissioner's Assistant Chief Executive
Currently there are no fixed cameras in the county with only mobile speed units being used.
Data from North Yorkshire Police shows that between 1 January and 31 December 2021, there were 85,610 speed violations captured by the Safety Camera Vans and Safety Camera Bike across the county.
More than 72,000 drivers were offered Speed Awareness Courses as a result and more than 9,000 were handed a Fixed Penalty Notice. More than 100 drivers were unable to be offered an Out of Court Disposal due to their excessive speed being over the threshold.
In addition to the Safety Camera Van and Bike figures, Traffic Officers issued more than 460 Traffic Offence reports for speeding offences in 2021.
Thomas Thorp says they are planning a thorough review of speed enforcement in the county.
It's hoped the review will be completed within six months.
